The body shops are the ones who stand behind their work, the insurance company will only send you back to the same shop if something is not right with the repairs. ONLY IF YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT FIXABLE AND YOUR HAPPY WITH THE AMOUNT OF THE SETTLEMENT SHOULD YOU RELEASE IT DIRECTLY TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY. This is not related to any injuries you may have due to the crash. If you DO NOT have collision damage (full coverage) and are at fault, depending on the damage, you may ask for a pay direct quote, if it's beyond repairing have it moved to a salvage yard ASAP. Don't look to make money on the vehicle, your goal is to break even at the best.
